June 25, 2010
After a weekend spent moving, filled with blood, sweat and beers, we are officially exhausted. Our back aches, we counted 22 bruises on our lower extremities, and we can’t find the toilet paper. All we want to do is turn up the AC, carve out a small patch of flooring amid the boxes and pass out. So, mustering up our last bit of energy, we give you “The Top 10 Reasons Why Moving Sucks:”
10. Routine tasks like bathing or checking email are no longer important.
9. You can never remember which box has the forks.
8. Finding good help is difficult, since every friend is “out of town” that weekend.
7. Your diet is limited to fast food, pizza, and Red Bull.
6. You always have more stuff junk than you think.
5. When else could you have an all-out shouting match with your boyfriend while carrying a 150-pound recliner up a flight of stairs?
4. It’s guaranteed to a) rain or b) be the hottest day of the year
3. You can hear it ringing, but you have no clue which box is harboring your lost cell phone.
2. Did we mention it’s exhausting?
1. You end up tossing 1/3 of your stuff - only after you’ve transported it! (Ref: #6)
Clearly we are not much for moving, but there are some women love to move—up and down the court that is! Attend a Minnesota Lynx game this summer and take advantage of a special discount - $15 off the price of each ticket! Dates and ticket availability can be found here. |

Just a Little Touchup
Revlon founder Charles Revson was famously quoted as observing, “In the factory we make cosmetics; in the store, we sell hope.” You got that right, Chuck, and so we’re nominating this spot as the most hopeful emporium in all of Edina.
No pore is too large, no wrinkle too deep, no brow too furry to daunt the dauntless pros behind the counter at the Cos Bar, an all-things-cosmetic boutique. There are many brands exclusive to the shop, such as the Crème D’Olives line, which is billed as the “Mediterranean diet” for beautiful skin. Hi-tech gadgets abound, such as the Clarisonic cleaner, one of Oprah’s latest faves and described as a “supersonic toothbrush for your face.” With a staff that’s trained to help find what works best for you, not just what’s in their brand’s lineup, there are plenty of chances for you to brighten up the visage, especially when you ask for a complimentary makeup application.
The “cos” in the name is short for “cosmetics,” and we think the whole place is just fab (short for fabulous, of course.)

A Comforting Site
We were crampy and bloated. The pair of tight jeans and mock turtleneck laid out on our bed looked like nothing short of a straight-jacket. Why couldn’t we just spend the day in our sweatpants? How bad would it be to run around in ratty heather grey with bleach spots? Who cares what you look like at the grocery store? But, of course, we couldn’t bring ourselves to do it. You never know when you might run into an ex or a frenemy.
Happily, we were not-long-after introduced to Maha!, a place where fashion and comfort meet. A store specializing in upscale yoga wear, as well as accessories like scarves and jewelry, Maha! is best described as “studio to street.” With smokin’ brands like Thai Yoga and Bali Dog, this trendy boutique may very well be the best thing to happen to women’s lib since the pantsuit. Who would have thought it possible to look equally as hot in yoga pants as in a pair of Seven’s?
Whether it’s icky-bloaty-day or running-from-yoga-to-happy-hour-day, you’ll find plenty of pieces to layer, resulting in that yin/yang of comfy/hot!

Making a Pretty Statement
A college guy-friend once cancelled a second date because the girl was wearing “too much makeup.” Not that we agree with this action, but ever since, we have focused on the little things that count: shoes (they make or break the outfit) and invitations (they set the tone for what’s to come). Uh, we also tend to shun the bright-blue eye shadow.
But back to invites, we always head to Paperista for our soiree announcements. This is not your mother-in-law’s stationery store—owner Antoinette puts her know-how and creativity to task, delivering some of the most beautiful, designed-for-you letterpress invites we have ever seen. The kind you proudly display until the event has come (and sometimes gone). Her handmade options are on-trend, eye-capturing and ultimately one-of-a-kind. From the rich card stock to the design, colors, and message, she works with you to create an invite that is seamless with your event (we love the airplane ticket destination wedding invites!).
Whether it’s a wedding, party, shower or other occasion that calls for a perfect first impression, check out the letterpress invites at Paperista. Remember, it’s the little things that count!

Elixir of Life
We exercise, eat right and sleep enough, but energy still eludes us. We even get in our daily 8 glasses of H2O. We need an edge. What could that edge be? We need The Big Pitcher.
Fact: beauty, youthfulness and health depend on oxygen. With The Big Pitcher, you get more oxygen with every sip of agua. Not only super refreshing and healthy, it tastes waaay better than tap, and after only a few days of drinking oxygen-rich water, we felt more cleansed and energized!

The Sporting Life
We love attending sporting events with our boy, but the last thing you’ll catch us in is a ginormous jersey. But a casual fitted tee with some feminine touches like rhinestones? We’re totally game!
Twins, Vikings, and local high-school logo Bling Tops at Amore & Fede are perfect. No wonder they sell out in lightning speed. For 34 bucks, you’ll be the most fashionable fan in the stands! Available at the Edina location until supplies last.

Bag Lady
We can schlep with the best of them, but nothing cramps our style like a tacky take-along bag. As local style icons (Oh haaa! We so wish! But we digress.), we feel like we need to represent, even when we’re loading up at TJ’s.
Our newest fixation? The funky/functional/foldable bags by Saky Sacks. The prints are totally of-the-moment, and they can easily carry up to 25 pounds of whatever you’re lugging around.
