Pretty Party Hair
We were perusing high-school photos with some friends and came across our prom pictures. While our dress surprisingly stands the test of time (simple black velvet sheath, no metallic poofs for us!), we couldn’t help but notice our hair—or rather the lack of any style that was fun or party-ready. Just a plain bob, like we had every other day of the year.
It got us thinking that our party hair is always an afterthought—and really, isn’t cute hair the perfect topper for any party outfit? So this year, and for years to come, we’re doing updos, and the best way to learn is to go to a master. Leah Luebbe at Juut in Gaviidae Commons was kind enough to show us the ropes. We walked in boring and left a short time later looking dazzling (sorta messy, totally sexy and not too “done”), and armed with some tips on doing our own simple updos at home.
Make an appointment with Leah for your holiday parties, or any event (birthdays, happy hours, first dates, Fridays) for a ‘do that is definitely a do! We just wish she had been around at prom.

Stir Up Some Style
We woke up the week after Thanksgiving and realized that while we were passed out on the couch in a turkey- and football-induced coma, we missed out on all of those Black Friday deals! The horror!
Thank the Style Gods for The Mix, one of our fave go-to spots that sports a selection of musts that thrill us to the bone at seriously phenomenal prices. A delightfully eclectic space to be sure, patrons can meander among aisles of oversized furniture with Hollywood regency flair, as well as awesome floor samples and staging pieces. Peruse glass tables artfully stacked with gifty knick-knacks and chic estate-sale jewelry, or comb through racks of clothing and accessories—we spied a vintage pair of Yves Saint Laurent heels, perfect for our holiday soiree.
With so many brand new, of-the-moment home goods and fashions at pocket-friendly prices, we were able to make off with not only those gorgeous heels, but also a couple of fancy throw pillows, and a rustic “Over Blue Waters” end table strapped to the luggage rack.

What a Boy Wants
Shopping for the men in our life can be tough. Either we have to take a wild guess at what they need, or what they do request is completely out of the realm of reality (e.g. a ginormous flat-screen, a private audience with Gisele Bundchen, Samarai Sword…) So what’s a girl to do?
The answer, we found, is pretty simple. Tucked away in the warehouse district of Minneapolis, s. kuhlman provides high-quality menswear that’s classic without being stuffy. The fabrics are soft and rich and the patterns, like gingham and stripes, come in an inspired color palette. With distinctive details in the stitching and lining of every garment, we could see the care and finesse put into each creation. And everything is sold as separates, so the knowledgeable salespeople were able to help us build a mix-and-match wardrobe that would look great in both the boardroom and the bar.
The overall beauty of s. kuhlman clothing is that it is right for any age and any demographic. That gingham would look fantastic on our boyfriend, but we know our dad would also take a shine to it. Man-shopping: Done. That wasn’t so bad, was it?

Hint, Hint
Last year we made the mistake of not specifying subject matter when we asked our Bro for a calendar. The result? Twelve majestic months of our country’s greatest outhouses. Oh joy.
We’re not risking another year of port-o’s so we’re demanding that he shop the stylish designs by artist Michelle Brusegaard. This talented former-local offers up a bevy of eye-pleasing prints emblazoned on everything from calling cards and calendars to cool scarves and dishtowels.

Does Your Body Good
As a general rule we’re pretty easy on the eyes, but if the truth be known we’ve been cursed with Fred Flintstone feet, i.e., fatty, crazy, monkey-toes. All the more reason to keep them looking their best with the Stand on Lotus Fizzing Flower Foot Soak by Bodylish.
Handmade right here in the Twin Cities from a heavenly scented essential oil blend of peppermint, rosemary and lemongrass, this foot fizzer eases tension while moisturizing, making for truly touchable tootsies.
