February 6th, 2009
We tend to ignore (fear, loathe) technology, and while we try to be hip to the current gen’s go-to gadgetry, we were recently accused of being the 30-something equivalent of an 80-year-old man, i.e. resistant to change and new-fangled ideas like fancy talkin’ picture phones.
When we joined MySpace, everyone else was on Facebook. When we got our first flip phone, people were happily addicted to Crackberries. While we plugged away on a desktop, our counterparts were toting laptops (in couture messenger bags, no less). So when we were recently stymied by a text, we decided to enlist a young hipster to bring us up to speed. Now we’re not only tech-savvy, but we’re down with the new street lingo, so when our BFFs message us: “OMG U R such an epic fail,” we can actually respond (and understand). Go us! |

Date Night Done Right
First came love. Then came marriage, bills, a couple of kids, a dog with OCD, severe sleep deprivation, and poof! Our love-life went from va-va-voom to sweat-suits and TV. Not exactly the romantic visions we had in mind when we took that fateful walk down the aisle.
Thankfully we discovered Out of the Box Dates before the sparks of love were completely snuffed out by life's tedium. Specializing in the romantic, Out of the Box Dates provides ready-made local adventures that are designed to enhance and renew relationships by injecting them with some sorely-missed and often times much-needed excitement! From themed dates laced with surprises for him and her to one-of-a-kind romantic games, this love guru makes romance easy by offering up a bevy of resources to help couples develop deeper connections while at the same time having fun.
So don’t waste precious time and money on ho-hum date nights! Let Out of the Box Dates make them memorable. Romantic menu prices range from $5–$130, or couples can work personally with owner LeeAnn Williams to customize the perfect adventure!

Our Favorite Kind of Pretty
Woe is winter. In such unbearably cold temps we have many reasons to be bitterly cold ourselves—parking six blocks away because of a snow-emergency, dealing with a dog that won’t go outside (so goes inside), or even the rule that you can’t keep your car running while filling the gas tank (grrr).
But we are resilient because we know Februaries come and go, but June is here to stay. As in June, the newest upscale resale boutique to hit the city. Our chattering jaws dropped when we first spotted in the window a stunning Bill Blass couture corset made of gold silk and ostrich feathers. Once we entered, the softly lit, open space sprinkled with French-inspired antique furnishings and animal-print rugs warmed us right up. Lovely gently used and never-been-worn pieces range from red velvet Lanvin pumps to Theory sweaters and this season’s hottest Marc Jacobs handbags.
If you’ve become a Debbie Downer, this place is your pick-me-up. The selection continues to grow, so we advise keeping up with their blog and popping in frequently. And if you’re looking to warm up, don’t miss the North Face coats and cashmere scarves!

Knowing Your Style Is Romantic
We have a hard time feeling romantic when we don't feel confident with what we're wearing. So when our, ahem, "knight in shining armor" rescued us with a 4-hour Closet Review from Inspire Style, we darn near swooned with joy! Finally we could put an end to the ridiculous hemming and hawing that we subject ourselves to when searching for the styles that look best on our body, and you can too.
Inspire Style's skillful Style Coach will work magic on your wardrobe by honestly (and kindly) taking an in-depth look at the contents of your closet, assessing items and coaching you on what will work best for your long-term wardrobe needs, pointing out the good (ooh, riding boots), the bad (ill-fitting button-ups), and the ugly (pink tweed pants that seemed like a good idea…). The result? A thoroughly sorted closet that embraces what works while making room for new looks you'll love!
Email your sweetheart the link to Inspire Style's Valentine Special—even Mr. Last Minute can get you an instant gift certificate for only $295. Now that's romantic.

There’s No Place Like Elsewares
Etsy has made our hearts skip a beat since its inception, but there’s another kid on the block promoting the indie vibe we love: www.elsewares.com.
This sweet little site offers up a carefully honed selection of wearables, jewelry, and miscellaneous other goods from spot-on designers, artists, and entrepreneurs that are too good to be missed. We love the felted wool handbags by Josh Jakus that perfectly embody organic cool, and the jewelry by Anne Kiel is eerily alluring.

Dooce’s Wild
We love a snarky gal who gives it to us straight, which is why we can’t get enough of Heather B. Armstrong’s charm.
This gal’s above average blog details the trials, tribulations, and trivial moments that make life both laughable and bearable, effortlessly entertaining the reader with body woes, kid gripes, and man funnies. Plus this cheeky chick isn’t afraid to bare all—case in point—the preg-o pic where she dons a tutu and a slightly psychotic grin. Hi-larious!

What’s Old Is New
We’re proud to be vintage vixens and as such are constantly on the hunt for new pieces to supplement our current wardrobe. Enter “What Goes Around Comes Around.”
This fashion haven is loaded with a precise selection of uber-cool vintage and vintage-inspired must-haves including a terribly saucy Neiman Marcus dress circa 1950 that we are in total lust with. They also stock swank coats, killer boots, and an on-trend selection of boyfriend jeans and rocker tees from bygone days.
