October 10th, 2008
We know it’s silly, but we derive immense joy from being carded, which is funny considering that we spent years 16–20 trying to look older so we could buy cigs and beer. Being carded when we were underage made us feel like immature kids not capable of making responsible decisions about our lungs or liver—which of course was true, but was neither here nor there because each time Big Top kicked us to the curb we shook our fists in teen defy-ment and shouted out a bunch of hooey about “the man” stickin’ it to us.
Whereas now if we’re asked for our ID we become blushing, giggling morons who nonchalantly hand it over while coyly yammering on about how we’re just having a good face day. We’ve actually convinced ourselves that we look 15 years younger, even though we know full well that it just ain’t so. Whoever said ignorance was bliss must have been over 30.
Treat of the week: Forward this issue to five friends and cc: Picks@MinneapolisPicks.com and one lucky winner will take home a stellar goodie bag from the hip crafters at Handmaiden Minneapolis! |

On the Hunt
Our mother passed down to us certain rituals of womanhood, including her salacious secrets on how to bolster beauty, woo men, and stay en vogue. And though we try to pass ourselves off as bright-eyed, shapely babes with legs for days, in reality we conceal hemorrhoid cream, wear Spanx, and flaunt 4-inch stilettos (all with a smile).
And while we relentlessly pursue the perfect man, we hunt with equal fervor for affordable fashion that would make Mom proud, so imagine our delight when we stumbled upon Totes & Treasures. Thanks to this accessories goldmine we no longer have to commit to just one Elliot Lucca drawstring tote, but can instead snag several designer-inspired handbags in eye-popping colors like cherry and lime, and our previously plain wrist is now wrapped with a chain link watch that blings like a Burberry original. We love the faux-croc wallets in candy cane shades, perfect for our friend’s upcoming b-day, and virtually indistinguishable from Perlina’s classics.
With this hidden gem’s trend-worthy selections we’ll have no problem stylishly stocking up on high-end looks for a whole lot less!

It’s All in the Details
Our boyfriend hates getting his hair cut, so he either cuts it himself (scary) or asks us to cut it (even scarier). Regardless, both options have the same sad outcome: hair a la Edward Scissorhands. Enter Details Style Lab, the latest Horst salon that can effortlessly glam the gals, while at the same time putting even the most manly man at ease.
This sophisticated and artfully deconstructed shop is half he/she haircuttery and half men’s boutique. Tucked amidst the exposed brick walls, metal ductwork, and concrete floors we found contemporary orange and blue hair stations where both sexes can score fabulous cuts, colors, perms, and spa treatments, making it the perfect destination for us to indulge in say, manis and pedis, while our guy has the mess on his head straightened out. Afterward he can shop a stylish spread of designer duds, from sweaters, coats, and dress shirts to casual tees and jeans, all from spot-on lines like Vintage Red and Ted Baker.
The end result? He leaves looking like a million bucks and we leave with a makeover. Aptly named, all his and hers details are masterfully covered!

Float On
We're not Sci-Fi geeks, but we admit that a teleporter would beat taking a red-eye, and a live-in a robot (think Rosie from the Jetsons) would be fab for relieving us from the drudgery of household chores. But unless Marty McFly swoops in and asks us out, RejoovMe Relaxation Center will be as close as we can get to heading back to the future.
This luxe spa offers up a totally unique experience: Floating. Picture a space-agey pod filled with 160 gallons of water and more than 600 pounds of Epsom salt. Simply hop in, pull the cover down, and within moments you’ll find yourself lulled to sleep by the sound of gentle ocean waves. We admit to initially being skeptical, but after one 60-minute float, not only were we sold, but we were bursting with more energy than the Flux Capacitor! Utterly relaxing, floating is known for relieving chronic pain, and is perfect for aiding in a speedy recovery after a hard workout. (Hello, marathoners!)
Want to really indulge? RejoovMe offers a combo float and massage package for the ultimate relaxation experience. Do we hear “holiday gift”?

Sweet, Sweet, Arm Candy
As women we have to be fierce multi-taskers, so the more we’re able to free up our hands, for say cocktails, kids, or coffee, the better. And if we can do it in style then we say tally-ho! That’s why we love the chic, innovative bracelet purses by designer Megan Leone.
Available in a ton of patterns that range from funky to formal, these sweet satchels dangle neatly from the wrist rather than being held in the hand. Let the hands-free merriment commence!

Mad, Mod, Home
We admit to having an unhealthy obsession with the clean lines of mid-century modern design, but sometimes we’re at a loss of how to incorporate such time-specific style without making our abode look like a model home circa 1950. Leave it to 2Modern to squelch our tacky fears!
Loaded with a stylish selection of room dividers, furniture, kid and décor items, this swell site will easily help you achieve a modern yet comfy vibe without turning your home into a retro nightmare.

Bringin’ Sexy Back
We’ll be honest: sexy isn’t so much our thing. In fact if the truth be known, we often wear more to bed then we do on a date, but after perusing the fresh and flirty underpinnings at Agent Provocateur, we’re rethinking our stance.
Chock full of chic lingerie ranging from classic bridal sets to vampy maternity bras (you heard us right), this is the perfect place to score a sweet treat that will make you feel like a vixen—even if worn under your flannel PJ’s.
