October 3rd, 2008
We’ve successfully been sucked into yet another social networking site, bringing our grand total to three. That’s three sites that play host to our most flattering snapshots and witty quips about who we are (supposedly). After logging onto site #2 and accepting friendship from our high-school prom date (don’t judge—he found us) we started wondering just what the hell we were doing by maintaining faux friendships with half the class of ’94, when suddenly it dawned on us: We’re voyeurs!
All of these sites allow us to spy on people! To be a fly on the proverbial wall, if you will. Who has kids? Who’s divorced? How much money do they make? Which man that did us wrong has lost the most hair? Who has a beer belly, or worse: who has a beer butt? It’s terrible, we know, and we feel horrible (kind of), so in an effort to stave off the bad juju, we’re gonna give away a treat to one lucky reader.
Forward this issue to five friends and cc: picks@MinneapolisPicks.com and you could win a cool reusable tote from the Green Chic Bag Company. |

This Bud’s For Us
Each year before V-day our high school sold roses, and each year we waited with knots in our stomach hoping that someone would see past our bad perm and braces and hand us one of those ruby red beauties. And each year we were left empty-handed, sighing deep sighs laced with teen angst. When we grew up we decided to take our happiness into our own hands, and we’ve been buying ourselves flowers ever since.
So for blossoms that leave our heart pounding we hit Fleur De Lis. This uber-quaint shop is stocked with a plethora of beautiful flowers, from exotic lilies to sunny sunflowers making for a true posy-picker’s paradise. Lacking the know-how to bundle your own bouquet? Put your trust in their friendly and talented designers. They’ll happily create an arrangement for any occasion. From fairytale weddings to swank dinner parties, their bodacious blooms are sure to garner compliments, and their sweet selection of jewelry and home décor items is just icing on the cake.
So do as we do. Stop into Fleur De Lis and make your own heart skip a beat.

Stephanie’s, Take Two
There are certain luxury items we’ve come to rely on, like Supima cotton tanks by James Perse, Dior lip gloss (in every shade, please), and push-ups from La Perla for, ahem, keepin’ the girls in check. And if there’s one shop that’s stood up to our fussy fashion sense time after time it’s Stephanie’s, so it’s no surprise that an equally enthralling sister Stephanie’s has been born in Edina.
This spot-on Westside boutique is masterfully offering up flattering and flirty pieces that transition seamlessly from day to night. Must-haves from this new girl in town include the comfy and chic Emma + Posh cashmere cardigans, and the fall-licious wool belted cape by Tibi that will leave any wearer wrapped up in style. And we found love, true love, with the cherry red leather handbag by Lenea Pelle! Divinely soft and supple, this classic beauty will add the perfect amount of punch to any outfit it’s paired with.
With fresh and fabulous designer duds available on both sides of the river, our luxe-list of to-die-for’s just got longer!

Paper Temptations
A friend once showed up for our birthday party and plopped a dingy pillowcase on the gift table. The look of confusion and repulsion on our face must have been painfully obvious, because he quickly explained that the sweat-stained pillowcase was not our gift (thankfully), but that our gift was inside of the pillowcase (um, gross). Too bad he didn’t know about Paper Patisserie.
One look around this enchanting paper purveyor and all thoughts of swaddling gifts inside of old linens would have surely vanished! This homegrown favorite artfully lines its walls with beautiful papers available in a variety of eye-popping prints. From deep, red wrap with gold embossing to punchy Neopolitan stripes, this boutique makes paper chic. They also stock a wide array of note cards and greeting cards, and their calendars exude and old-world Parisian charm that we simply love!
Toss in their eclectic selection of home goods, heavenly scented Sabonete soaps, and seriously stunning jewelry and you’re left with a shop that can not only wrap any gift in style, but can provide the gift as well.

Their ultra-sturdy totes are available in a ton of eye-pleasing prints and are sure to turn heads, whether they’re loaded up with groceries, or slung over your shoulder while strolling through the mall.

Great Expectations
We’re notoriously picky about the products we use. Nothing too perfume-y, nothing too expensive, and hold the nasty chemical ingredients that we can’t pronounce. Enter Mi Spa, an online purveyor that is masterfully living up to our high expectations!
This bath and beauty haven is loaded with a bevy of natural skin, hair, and body solutions that are eco-conscious, decadent, and reasonably priced to boot. We love the charcoal and bamboo body soap, perfect for pampering our precocious skin.

Second-Hand Glam
We’ve heard of rehabilitated homes, rehabilitated people, and even rehabilitated dogs, but rehabilitated dishware not so much. However, one look at the infinitely cool designer dishes by Sarah Cihat had us jumping on the rehab bandwagon.
Made from re-fired and re-glazed overstocks and second-hand finds, these oh-so-stylish plates and platters come in a myriad of cool designs. From fierce skulls and pin-up girls to wildlife motifs and flowers, we swear these quirky silhouettes will leave you completely smitten!
