life + style in the Twin Cities

April 4th, 2008
After lounging in the sun and drinking more than our fair share of margaritas, we’ve returned to the city relaxed, refreshed, rejuvenated, and (gasp!) multiple pounds heavier (we’re not saying how many, so don’t ask). Needless to say we blame the delish gourmet food we consumed on our Mexican holiday, though we’re sure the whole laying around and drinking thing didn’t help. So we’ve decided to kick our slightly bigger butts into overdrive, and we’re implementing a fierce new workout routine that we’re positive will have us slim and trim in no time flat (or at least prior to swimsuit season).
If you're feelin' a little extra jiggle in your wiggle, then join us in getting fit by heading to Balance Fitness Studio. Forward this to 5 friends and cc picks@minneapolispicks.com and you could win a complimentary fitness session at Balance! |

Not in Kansas Anymore
Our best friend is an LA-based fashion photographer who compulsively sends us annoying text messages in the dead of winter. (“Sunny and 75, jealous? xoxo!”) Seriously, is that really necessary? She’s a sweetie (and apparently a sadist), and we can’t help but love her (she sends us denim samples), but thankfully we no longer have to rely on her hand-me-downs in order to dress to impress. We need only shop Intoto to get an ultra-chic dose of exceptional designer gear.
This brilliant boutique is long on gorgeous, and tastefully packed with a heavenly assortment of sought-after clothes and accessories. We were completely taken with the beautifully patterned silk dresses and cocktail lounge tops by Designer Dries Van Noten, so attractive they border on the artistic, perfect for warmer days ahead. And we can’t help but love the Seven Jeans, which effortlessly morph our less-than-lovely love handles.
Trend setting basics by Contemporary Velvet, cool bags, and an impressive selection of menswear round out the mix, and make this hip boutique a must-visit on your next shopping adventure.

Seek Balance
When our adventuresome best friend decided to tie the knot on a Jamaican beach, we let out a sigh of relief—beaches, daiquiris, and no fluffy-sleeve bridesmaid dresses? Score! Our enthusiasm quickly faded when we remembered that arm-Jell-O and barely-there bikinis don’t mix. So we set down the Haagen-Dazs, and painfully started googling “weight training for wimps.” Within moments we found Balance.
This sleek fitness studio, located in uptown Minneapolis, not only offers fitness and resistance training, but yoga and Pilates as well. Knowing full well that our bods are in need of a major overhaul, we quickly sign ourselves up for the popular Balance Boot Camp, an intense two-week day program that combines cardio with weight training, all near the Minneapolis chain of lakes. Add to that the friendly and knowledgeable staff and you’ve got your new favorite place to shake those winter jiggles.
So even if exercise comes waaaay after ice cream on your list of loves, trust Balance Fitness Studio to help you embrace your inner fitness diva. They’ll have you feeling the burn in no time!

Handbag Heaven
We've never understood the shoes vs. handbags thing. It's like breathing vs. mascara. Clearly we require both. So when we walked into Clutch, our accompanying thought-balloon of dreamy stilettos went “pop”! We were instantly consumed by desire for all things handbag-related.
Owner Lori Cheadle has gathered a precise selection of exquisite bags, beguiling vintage jewelry and other chic accessories in her luxe Edina boutique. We found ourselves instantly drawn to the bags by Femme Sud, which are cleverly disguised as vintage photo albums, and the dead-gorgeous beaded linen bags by Hayden-Harnett. But in the end, it was the laser-cut leather satchels by Chamides that tugged at our heartstrings. Versatile enough to be paired with denim or designer dresses, they scream perfection for both day and night.
Take a tip from us … everyone will be toting this season's “it bag.” Be divinely different by shopping at Clutch. You’ll undoubtedly be the girl with the most fabulous handbag in the room, and we'll be the ones gaping at you.

Simply Charming
When we were young we were obsessed with charm bracelets. In fact, we had so many dangling from our wrist that we walked with a lop-sided lilt.
So when we discovered Bombalurina we were instantly transported back in time. This unconventional local artisan offers up an eclectic mix of edgy, embellished charm necklaces, earrings, and brooches that exude a Victorian delicacy, while at the same time embracing a rock-meets-vintage attitude that is totally irresistible.
