life + style in the Twin Cities

March 14th, 2008
Recently we decided to shine ourselves up and rock the city to celebrate our BFF’s new digs (if you’d seen her old pad, you’d understand why). We shunned our snow boots, donned our heels, and hit our fave local eatery. The food was luscious, the convo fab, and the cocktails free-flowing. Regrettably a little too free-flowing. (Sake is delish, but oh-so-deadly.) What began as a fun girls’ night out quickly turned into a college-worthy booze-fest.
The next morning we woke up, remembered we were big girls, and swore to never party like it’s 1999 again. One look in the mirror told us we needed to seriously freshen ourselves up, so we decided to hit up Spot Spa Boutique for some much needed R & R, and you should too! Mention Minneapolis Picks at either of their awesome locations, and score yourself a complimentary Steam or Sauna treatment. |

Forget Roses
Our best friend managed to squeeze herself onto the guest list of a very swanky birthday party for a dashing local newscaster (we’d say who, but we don’t like to name-drop). Since she totally owes us for bailing her out of a horrifically bad date last July—that’s right, we didn’t forget—we’re making her take us along. We can’t think of a more shop-worthy occasion, so we’re heading straight to Ivy.
This fashionable outfitter is home to a myriad of seriously hot, trend-worthy items. In fact, the only thing more gorgeous than the up-to-the-minute tops and dresses from Salvage and Benson might be the stunning Isabella Fiore handbags perched alongside them. And we couldn’t keep our eyes off the rack of irresistible Tom Ford sunglasses, which we’ll undoubtedly need to shield our peepers from the local paparazzo’s flashbulbs.
In true boutique fashion, Ivy only stocks a few sizes of every piece, so we’ll never have to worry about crashing a bash in the same hot dress as another partygoer.

Spot On
There is nothing worse than parading around in a robe with a room full of strangers looking on. So when we searched for a unique and, dare we say, intimate, spa experience, we were thrilled to find Spot Spa Boutique.
This locally owned oasis specializes in a variety of bodyworks, ranging from facials and waxing to decadent massages that will leave you melting! Everything on Spot’s menu is designed to enhance both your physical and spiritual well being, and they use only natural products. We dare you to try the “A Shiatsu” bar massage, where a talented (and hopefully well-pedicured) massage therapist uses her feet to work out those nasty kinks. And we love the non-invasive acupressure facelift that leaves skin young and radiant looking, without making you look like that infamous surgery-addicted Cat Lady. So perfect for refreshing our smiling faces after one too many late nights!
So whether you need a coach to ease you through your first brow session or someone to get you Brazilian-ized ASAP, trust Spot to leave you feeling beautifully pampered.

Knitting Pretty
The last few years we’ve been bombarded by photos of our favorite celebrities with knitting needles poking out of their Louis Vuittons. It appears that knitting is the, hottest way to kill a couple of hours, while at the same time knocking out a couple of cool Christmas presents. With that in mind, we headed to Bella Lana to get the inside scoop on Hollywood’s latest fad.
This gorgeous little yarn boutique is a knitter’s paradise. With a rainbow of colors to choose from, each tempting skein of yarn pops right off the shelf, and there are tons of fun accessories to make your projects oh-so distinctive. (Big buttons, anyone?) We love their killer selection of patterns for cute dresses, cozy scarves and stylish hats. Pair the goodies with their incredibly helpful staffers, and you’ll be on your way to a craftier image a la Hollywood in no time.
So if you’re looking for a new hobby, or just a way to impress your boyfriend’s knit-aholic mother, Bella Lana is the store for you! Go on … get your craft on.

Bodacious Blossoms
Spring is a mere six days away, and we’ve been dying to lay eyes on something other than gritty street snow. So when we caught sight of the blossom-emblazoned stationery from eleven56, we felt a rush of spring fever!
Hip, floral motifs adorn a variety of mod card kits, ranging from cocktail invites to b-day wishes. And seriously, they’re so easy to assemble that even the clumsiest of crafters (like us) can create totally stylish cards.

Bohemian Rhapsody
We love a sparkly bauble, but originality is a must. So when we discovered the chic jewelry at San Marco Designs, we knew it was love! This about-to-be-famous jeweler offers up a unique selection of beautiful earrings and striking necklaces, many adorned with diamond pendants and semi-precious gems.
We especially love the crave-worthy Moon Necklace. It perfectly embodies bohemian style, while at the same time maintaining modern appeal. It’s so going on our wish list!

Totally Tubular
We’re obsessed with mascara. In fact, if we were stuck on a desert island, we’d eschew sunscreen for a constant supply of the heavenly black stuff. Our new favorite? Tube Your Lash mascara. It gives us gorgeous, star-worthy lashes and promises not to cry off. (Run-ins with the ex can be rough!)
It’s even become a must-have among the Hollywood set. We’re certain that those fashionistas wouldn’t settle for anything less than fabulous, and neither should you!
